Hey, Friends! Let’s Talk About Tech and Our Health
Hello there, kindred spirit! So glad to see you hanging out with me on my blog. Today, I’m wearing my thinking cap on a subject that’s close to my heart: technology, and its impact on our physical health. Isn’t it astonishing how something designed to make our lives simpler can raise health concerns? Let’s dive in and explore it together.
Living a Technicolor Life
First up, let’s go back down memory lane. Remember when we were kids running around in the playground, and the most hi-tech thing was a Tamagotchi or a Game Boy? Now, our children are growing up in a world where a smartphone is as essential as a pet rock was in the ’70s. Isn’t it thought-provoking?
So, What’s the Dish on Tech-Health?
Research from Harvard University suggests that the modern world’s extended “screen time” can lead to more sedentary behavior. This sedentariness can be linked to issues such as obesity and chronic health issues like heart diseases and diabetes.(1). Believe me; my older brother’s struggle with weight gain due to extended gaming sessions is the real ‘proof of the pudding.’ Isn’t it shocking to learn how our tech habits can potentially harm us?
Eye of the Tiger (Or Not)
And then, there’s the strain on our lovely peepers, folks. Digital Eye Strain or Computer Vision Syndrome is a real thing. It’s been found that spending more than two hours a day in front of a computer screen can lead to this (2). We’ve all been there, right? Remember that time we binge-watched ‘The Stranger Things’ and ended up with a killer headache? Yep, the beast could be digital eye strain.
Breaking the Bad (Habits)
- Make it a rule to step away from your gadget every 30 minutes
- Work on being more active. To ‘Netflix & Chill’, maybe we can ‘Netflix & Treadmill’ instead?
- Wear blue light glasses or use apps to reduce screen glare
We’re in this together, my friends. We can keep ourselves motivated to improve our habits and take care of our health. After all, we’re only as strong as our Netflix binge-watching weakest link, right?
Wrapping it up
Don’t get me wrong; I’m by no means advocating for a tech-free world. In reality, I’m as guilty as the next person of adoring technology. It’s all about moderation and healthy habits. Technology is incredible, but it’s essential to know its impact on our physical health. By taking small steps towards moderation, we can enjoy the wonders of technology while keeping our health intact. Let’s aim for that, okay?
