My Personal Fitness Journey

Now, just to set the stage, I was never the athletic type. My idea of a workout used to be a vigorous session of channel surfing. But one day I realized that the occasional shortness of breath wasn’t just because my favorite show got canceled (I’m still not over it, by the way), but also because my fitness level was on par with a bag of chips. That was when I knew I needed to make a change.

Finding Fitness in the Little Things

Here’s the good news — I found that fitness didn’t necessarily mean spending hours at the gym (no offence to my gym lover friends). This can be broken down into manageable chunks every day.

For me, it was swapping my sedentary Netflix marathons with yoga sessions and trust me, after a few Downward Dogs and Cobras, you’ll feel just as engaged as with any on-screen drama!

The Beauty of Variety

Don’t get me wrong, keeping things simple and repetitive can be effective (just ask anyone doing their 10,000 steps a day). But for a change-lover like me, I needed variety. Not only does mixing up your workouts prevent your body from adapting to a certain exercise (source), but it also keeps your mind engaged and excited about the next session. It’s like a surprise party for your muscles!

Accepting the Ebb and Flow

Some days you might embrace an intensive HIIT routine, and some days it could just be some light stretching exercises. And that’s okay. It’s important to listen to your body. Fitness isn’t a straight line, it’s more like a dance where you learn to ebb and flow with your abilities and energy levels. My advice? Find your rhythm and dance with it!
